Quran: Chapter 3 ‘Tilkar Rosolu’, Sura: Al Baqarah, Verse: 264:
O you who believe! Do not render in vain your Sadaqah (charity) by reminders of your generosity or by injury;
Difficult words: Render: Cause, make, turn into. Vain: Unsuccessful, worthless, unproductive, and useless. Injury: Hurt, harm, wound, damage.
Explanation: Allah loves those who give charity and help others. Allah All-Mighty promises great rewards for them. But there is Allah’s wrath for a charity giver if he tortures the charity taker by reminding him of his charity. Allah’s anger is for that charity giver as well who says bad things to the charity taker, belittles him and dishonours him. Charity must never be reminded and no injury be done to a soul by the word of mouth. It must never be done even if the charity giver and charity taker are alone. Allah dislikes greatly these types of charity givers and there is no reward for them.
It is a Big Sin, ‘gunaah e kabira’, for that charity giver who says bad things to the charity taker, belittles him, dishonours him, reminds him about the charity and does injury to his soul by the word of mouth.
