Quran Chapter 2, Sipara: ‘Sayaqool’, Sura: 2 ‘Al- Baqarah’ ‘The Cow’, Verse 172- 173
Verse 172: O you who believe (in the Oneness of Allah— Islamic Monotheism)! Eat of the lawful things that We have provided you with, and be grateful to Allah, if it is indeed He Whom you worship.
Verse 173: He has forbidden you only the Maitah, dead animals, and blood, and the flesh of swine, and that which is slaughtered as a sacrifice for others than Allah (or has been slaughtered for idols, or on which Allah’s Name has not been mentioned while slaughtering). But if one is forced by necessity without willful disobedience nor transgressing due limits, then there is no sin on him. Truly Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
Explanation by samia2010oct: To eat dead animals, blood, the flesh of swine, and that which is slaughtered as a sacrifice for others than Allah are Haram, strictly forbidden by Allah All-Mighty. It is Big Sin, Gunaah e Kabira, to eat these things. For Big Sins there is the punishment of unbearable Hell Fire. The sanctity of life is supreme so if the situation is life threatening, there is nothing other than these things to be swallowed to keep life living then they can be used to save life and must not be used for more than that. Above forbidden things must never be used for the love of their taste.
