Not equal are Al-Khabith (all that is evil and bad as regards things, deeds, beliefs, persons and foods) and At-Tayyib (all that is good as regards things, deeds, beliefs, persons and foods), even though the abundance of Al-Khabith may please you. So fear Allah, O men of understanding in order that you may be successful. Quran 5:100.

Allah says to His Messenger,

قُل …

Say, (O Muhammad),

… لاَّ يَسْتَوِي الْخَبِيثُ وَالطَّيِّبُ وَلَوْ أَعْجَبَكَ …

Not equal are the bad things and the good things, even though they may please you, (O human),

… كَثْرَةُ الْخَبِيثِ …

the abundance of bad.

This Ayah means, the little permissible is better than the abundant evil.

… فَاتَّقُواْ اللّهَ يَا أُوْلِي الأَلْبَابِ …

have Taqwa of Allah, O men of understanding…,

who have sound minds, avoid and abandon the impermissible, and let the permissible be sufficient for you.

… لَعَلَّكُمْ تُفْلِحُونَ ﴿١٠٠﴾

in order that you may be successful.

in this life and the Hereafter.

Explanation by samia2010oct: One’s entire life one has to make choices. Whether to do this or to do that, to go this way or to go that way? Whether to choose this or to choose that? There are always two ways. One cannot go both ways. These both are in opposite directions. And one has to choose one of them. So one must never ever choose Al-Khabith (all that is evil and bad as regards things, deeds, beliefs, persons and foods) no matter how abundant and easy they are and must always choose At-Tayyib (all that is good as regards things, deeds, beliefs, persons and foods) no matter how scanty it is and in its scantiness creating some difficulties. One must always choose, At-Tayyib, all that is good and discard, Al-Khabith, all that is evil and bad according to the Holy Quran and according to the Traditions of Last Prophet Muhammad Peace Be Upon Him. Whenever one is choosing to go according to Allah’s Devine Rules the intention must only be to follow Allah’s Devine Rules and nothing else. Life must be spent only for Allah’s Happiness. Allah’s Devine Rules are only for people of understanding. Only for those who have the ability to think and absorb the Devine Wisdom and function accordingly. Allah put this understanding in all individuals and made His Devine Rules easy to understand and easy to practice. To be successful in this world and in the Hereafter as well, one has to live within the boundaries of the Devine Rules of Allah Sub Han Wa Ta’ala. It is Big Sin Major Sin Gunaah e Kabira to choose and live against the Devine Rules of Allah Sub Han Wa Ta’ala. For all Major Sins there is the punishment of burning by unending Hell Fire. For many Major Sins the punishment starts from this world and continues in the Hereafter.
